Duel
Harry Potter Style

Light Writing Photography
I have been wanting to do this for a while now but never had all the tools to do so, I needed a tripod and a remote for the shutter. I finally now have both and since I went camping last weekend I decided to try doing light writing with my family. We had a blast playing with glow sticks and the camera. My sisters had the idea do to a duel Harry Potter style, we have everyone do one of these pictures, but my sisters did the best. We also had everyone do some sort of power shot with the light being an attacking power. Needless to say we had a lot of laughs and were even told by the camp ground owner to quiet down.

How to Do
Camera needs to be able to be put into Bulb mode. Low ISO. f/8 or higher. Manual focus. Tripod. Remote for the shutter. A very start area with no light of any sort behind.
Set of camera position and frame, shine a light on the person being photographed to get the focus right, but a stick down to keep the person on that field of focus.
Open shutter. Quickly shine a light on the person, keep really still. Start light painting if using glow sticks move very slowly and always have the light pointing towards the camera. The model person should stay in place just until light position is needed, but they can move once the light is off of them. Once finished light writing close the shutter.
A few attempts will probably happen until you get it down. It took us a few times before we got it down pat.

If you would like to participate please do. I will post my Bookography post each week on Wednesdays. I would love if you would link back to my blog and share your own link in the comments.

Two Seattle Book Locations

Gas Works Park

The Gum Wall

A friend that moved from Seattle to Australia got married and brought his wife to visit family and friends and show her around. We went to The Fremont Troll, Gas Works Park, Pike Place Market, The Original Starbucks, The Gum Wall and the Pier. I forgot to take pictures of a few of the other structures that we visited without anyone standing in the picture. So I'm just going to show these two locations that have been featured in books.

Have you been to Seattle and seen either of these two attractions? Have you read about these two locations being in books? Eventually I want to add all the known Seattle locations to theses posts.

If you would like to participate please do. I will post my Bookography post each week on Wednesdays. I would love if you would link back to my blog and share your own link in the comments.

Top 10 Tuesday (20)

Top 10 Tuesdays
Topic: Top Ten Posts That Would Give the Best Picture of Me
This meme is created by The Broke and the Bookish, anyone can participle telling about their top 10 topic items are.

The majority of my posts that I chose have to do with being at events, taking pictures and having lots of fun. I want to show my blog readers that I not only love books, but I love meeting the authors who write them.

This was a wonderful and fun event. I loved taking pictures and writing an event recap for this event. Marissa has linked this recap on her blog and has used some of the pictures on her blog and Facebook as well, which makes me extremely proud.

I meet Megan while at Meyer's launch party, while I wasn't able to read her book before the event I read it after and still attended the event. It was fun and again I had fun taking pictures and seeing some familiar faces.

This was so much fun, I absolutely adore Alex and I loved all the props he brought to present. Alex ended up still the show and Robin described herself as the opening act.

Yes another launch party I was able to attend. I love Derting, this was the third time I have meet her and it has been fun because now she knows me and who I am. I love that to some authors I am actually a known reader.

When I attend 1 author events I will remember what the authors say and write it down, but on multi author events I have given up, it gets to crazy. Now I just take lots of pictures and try to capture the entertainment of the evening. At this event I actually meet up with some local bloggers and had dinner before the event.

For this event I was actually asked by Harper to be the official event blogger. I recorded the event and took pictures. I put a lot of time into this event and post, it was exhausting and lots of fun.

My very first author interview with Alexander Gordon Smith. I later got to meet him which make the experience event better.

My last favorite posts are some of my favorite Bookography pictures I have taken. I'm very proud of how my photography skill has progressed over the last year.

I was initially taking these smoke pictures just for fun and to do this for the first time. While I was going through them I realized that this picture looked like the cover of Looking for Alaska. I do want to take these smoke pictures again, it was a lot of fun.

I didn't start out with this picture in mind, I was first trying for a refraction picture but I wasn't liking. As I adjusted I ended up with this picture and I really liked the end result.

An in the pages picture that I really liked. I took this picture around the time one of the Snow White movies came out.

What are your posts that best describe you?

Book
The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen
Sugar Queen

I loved reading these books and I have had fun taking pictures of these books as well. This is the third one I have taken a picture of. I have also done Garden Spells and Peach Keeper.

Post processing was simple, I added a bit of fill light to give it a bright kinda candied look. Played a little with the contrast, blacks, highlights, shadows and a few other sliders in Lightroom as well.

If you would like to participate please do. I will post my Bookography post each week on Wednesdays. I would love if you would link back to my blog and share your own link in the comments.

Theatre Illuminata Trilogy by Lisa Mantchev
Faerie Cookies

I decided to make some cookies today for my 4 favorite ever starving mischievous fairies Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth and Mustardseed. My plan was to first take pictures of the cookies before they started eating them, but one of the little devils snuck behind my back and took a bit.

The cookies were amazing, I managed to snag one before they consumed them all. The cookies are Double Chocolate Ghirardelli Brownie Cookies.

Book
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by The Brothers Grimm

 Snow White

I really couldn't decide which angle I liked the best out of these ones. Post processing was simple, turning the photos into B&W and adding some fill light to the photo. I was having some issues with my flash and it was blowing out the photos.

Which one is your favorite?

"He kissed me tenderly, adoringly; I forgot the crowd, the place, the time, the reason . . . only remembering that he loved me, that he wanted me, that I was his."
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer pg 50

I went to my cousin's wedding (the groom) this weekend and I had to share one of the the pictures, since I took well over 500 pictures that weekend. I had to add the Breaking Dawn quote, there isn't many wedding quotes in books, that I could at least think of. The flower picture is what was on the tables during the reception.

If you would like to participate please do. I will post my Bookography post each week on Wednesdays. I would love if you would link back to my blog and share your own link in the comments.

The Black Rose by Thomas B. Costain

Old Book

I couldn't decide which version I liked the most, I like each of them for a different reason. Do you have a favorite? I love this old tattered book, I especially love the title, don't be surprised if I use this one a few more times. I need to get some more books that look like this one.

If you would like to participate please do. I will post my Bookography post each week on Wednesdays. I would love if you would link back to my blog and share your own link in the comments.

Inspired By:
The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
Blue Flower

I had to try my own attempt of recreating the flower on the front cover. I used blue tissue paper to create the flower, that in itself was a little difficult to do, but I managed. To take the picture I put a flash light behind the flower and in post I added fill light to brighten the front of the flower.

Page Birds

These little page birds were strung up at Third Place Books in Ravenna. I thought they were so cool looking I just had to take a picture of them. The friend I was with wants to do this when she gets her own place.

Would you rip apart a book to create these little guys as decor in your library? I would, but the book would have to be one that I don't care about.
