Oubliette Review

Oubliette

Summary
Reychel thought she was finally free. She was wrong. Everyone saw her gift of prophecy as a blessing, but her gift is uncontrollable. No one alive can teach her to manipulate her unique gift and the answers she needs lie buried within a madman’s journals. She’s thrust in the midst of a brewing war and the only uniting factor for her people is their belief in the Prophet.

Will Reychel learn to control her gift or will she be forced to deliver a false prophecy that could lead her people into a violent war?

What I Loved
Series
This is book 2 in the trilogy and I really enjoyed it more than the first. There was so much information that they get, lots of intrigue, back stabbing, betrayal, needless to say it was packed with a lot of good page turning story. I can't wait to read the final book.
Characters
Reychel: I'm so happy with the path her character is going and how her personality is really starting to develop into a strong young woman.
Romance
A little less on the romance in this one verses Anathema, not a lot in both books, but a perfect about.

Didn't Like
Nothing really, it was all enjoyable fast paced read.

Recommendation
Part of a finished series and saga. Great read for those who like fantasy books.

Anathema Review

Anathema

Summary
Forget prophecy. Make your own destiny.

Sheltered from the outside world with no hope for escape, slave girl Reychel dreads her fifteenth birthday - when her master’s symbol is burned on the back of her bald scalp. Her best friend disappears the night before, leaving her to face the branding ceremony alone. She soon discovers nothing is as it seems when people desperate for freedom beg for Reychel's help.

Can Reychel learn to believe in herself?

What I Loved
Story
Very interesting story with lots of intriguing things that we get to find out as Reychel learns about it all. Hidden magical abilities that is just being revealed. Escaping enslavement, being in hiding and learning about the world outside of the castle. Not to mention betrayal and intrigue. Every page brings something interesting and new to our attention.
Characters
Reychel: I'm still trying to figure her out, she is still coming into her strength and I think she will find herself more as the next books progress and she gets more challenged.
Romance
Light on the romance, but some sweet innocent romantic attraction that gets her into a little bit of trouble.

Didn't Like
Nothing really. A quick paced intriguing book. So glad the whole sage is published and I don't have to wait, waiting for the next book would be torture.

Recommendation
Great read for any fantasy reader, especially since the series is fully published and you can buy the whole collection as The Song of Eloh Saga

Hidden Review

Hidden

Summary
The mystery enshrouding Hutton’s Bridge is as impenetrable as the fog that descended at its borders eighty years ago. Each year, three villagers enter the mist searching for answers. No one ever returns.

Then a dragon falls from the sky to the town square, dead—the first glimpse of an outside world that has become nothing more than a fairy tale to Hutton’s Bridge. Except to Tressa.

Tressa grew up with Granna’s stories of the days before the fog fell. When Granna dies, leaving Tressa without any family, Tressa ventures into the fog herself, vowing to unravel the foul magic holding Hutton’s Bridge captive.

What she discovers beyond the fog endangers the lives of everyone she loves.

What I Loved
Characters
Tressa: My favorite type of female character, she struggles with what she must do, but when she needs to stand up and do the hardest things she gets it done. She is willing to make sacrifices for the good of her people and willing to sacrifice her happiness and self for the ones she loves. I'm really excited to see what happens to her in the next book, and I wonder what she will be doing next to save her village again.
Fantasy
I love fantasy, I love new and different worlds that are created and this one is confusing at first because the characters we are following don't even know or understand the world they are in. The whole deadly fog is a crazy and kinda scary concept. I'm not sure if I could do what Tressa has to do without crumbling in fear.
Romance
Although the book mainly isn't about romance, it has a wonderful touch of lost loves and romance. It was the perfect amount for this book.

Didn't Like
This is the first book in a series and now I have to wait for the next one, I wish it was in my hands right now!!

Recommendation
Great read for fantasy, romance and action lovers.

Gate to Kandrith Review

Gate to Kandrith
By Nicole Luiken

Summary
Sarathena Remillus, daughter of the newly elected Primus of the Republic of Temboria, has been given a mission: discover the secret of slave magic. Anxious to escape the corruption and treachery of the capital, Sara welcomes the chance to finally prove herself far away in Kandrith, the tiny nation of former slaves.

Accompanying her on the journey is Lance, a Kandrithan to whom Sara owes her life. Lance despises the nobility, and is determined to resist his desire for Sara, despite her attempts to entice him into divulging the secret of his magic.

Soon their travels become fraught with peril, and Sara discovers she's fallen victim to the ultimate betrayal. To end a war between two nations, she will have to make the ultimate sacrifice...

What I Loved
POV
The book switches between three characters Sara, Lance and another mystery character that is either the bad guy or the good guy and we don't know which till the last quarter of the book. I enjoyed getting information from all three different points of views. At times I got a little confused when the pov switched characters but only for a few sentences.
Characters
Sara: I'm not much of a princess fan so at first I went back and forth with her character, but as the story progressed and I got to learn more about her I came to respect and love her character. Throughout the book you get to find out she isn't the typical spoiled rotten princess and that she is willing to stand up for herself and try to view things with an open mind. I also like how she has this "wildness" in her that doesn't let her the the proper docile little princess her father wants her to be.
Lance: A complete mystery even though the book goes to his pov he stays very tight lipped about himself. He is an intriguing character from being first introduced at this mysterious rescuer, who was a slave but is actually a prince of sorts. He is also passionate, protective and giving and I like those protective men.
Never a Dull Moment
Throughout the whole book something new was always happening, new things were being discovered, attempted murder on Sara's life, escape, death, passion and the ugly truth was revealed. There isn't a good place to put down the book and I hated when I had to put it down.
Ending
Oh my goodness I can't believe it ended like that, I really want the next book like now!! I did tear up at the end, it was a bittersweet moment. A definite cliffhanger ending, but everything else was summed up and ended for this book and a new issue presented itself for the next book.
Fantasy World
I love reading new created fantasy worlds they are always so intriguing. This world is interesting with different gods and goddesses being prayed to and a major social segregation. There is the Republic where the slave owners live, Slaveland aka Kandrith were the escaped free slaves live and there is the Grasslands and a few other place where the barbarians live (from the Republic view point).

Some Confusion
Fantasy World
At the same time it is confusing starting off a new fantasy book with a whole new fantasy world especially one that has lots of new and very different names. Trying to figure out the rules for this world takes a little time.

Recommendation
Got to read this book. Light on the adult content, but still has some.
